Vocational Training

We offer vocational training

Wilhelm Ley began training for gardeners in around 1900. Since then, we have successfully qualified over 500 gardeners in Meckenheim. Today, we are deeply involved in vocational training events, promote our profession in schools and support the development of image brochures for our professional sector.

Application from 1922

In 1922, Wilhelm Ley applied to the Chamber of Agriculture of the Rhine Province for permission to run his nurseries as a ‘Gardening School’ after already having trained apprentices to the level of assistant gardener.

The T•A•G Initiative - Top Ausbildung Gartenbau (Top training in horticulture)

‘Gardener – a profession full of life’ - six words that concisely and clearly express what the profession is all about. The significance of horticultural products for society as a whole is undisputed, yet it is often difficult to convey a sufficiently strong and positive image of the profession to the young people of today. It is essential that vocational training in horticulture is made more attractive to young people in the future. One opportunity is to work on the basis of the adage ‘Do good and tell people about it’. This is precisely the aim of the professional T•A•G Initiative – Top Ausbildung Gartenbau (Top training in horticulture) We have been involved in this initiative in North Rhine-Westphalia since it began in 2007 and, in this way, are commited to our responsibility for safeguarding the next generations of professional gardeners.

The initiative is sponsored by:

  • - Landesverband Gartenbau Rheinland e.V.
  • - Landesverband Gartenbau Rheinland e.V.
  • - Verband Garten-, Landschaft- und Sportplatzbau NRW e.V.
  • - Provinzialverband Rheinischer Obst- und Gemüsebauer e.V.
